Supersonic

3D modeling and rendering of household appliance.

While studying for the bachelor's degree in industrial design, I had the chance to acquire skills and knowledge using various programs and software. One of them was Rhinoceros, employed for advanced 3D modeling and tangible product development. In this project, I worked on the analysis and mimicking of the external aspect of the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer.

After many projects using the software, I've acquired a high level of proficiency in product modeling. I am now able to transform a two-dimensional technical drawing into a 3D model and vice versa.

PROCESS:

Here are some of the tasks and steps I take into account when working in a three-dimensional modeling:

  • Identify specific requirements such as dimensions, features, and intended use.

  • Ensure accurate and comprehensive reference materials to guide the modeling process.

  • Outline key features and proportions to establish a design foundation.

  • Gradually refine the 3D model by adding more details and smoothing surfaces.

  • Pay attention to the accuracy of dimensions and ensure that the model closely aligns with the reference materials.

  • Incorporate surface details such as textures, patterns, or logos onto the model.

  • Apply texture mapping to ensure realistic rendering and shading. I like to use Keyshot for this part because of its high level of detail and versatility.

  • Define materials for different parts of the model, specifying properties like color, reflectivity, and transparency.

  • Set up appropriate lighting to showcase the model realistically.

Type: 3D modeling with Rhinoceros and rendering with Keyshot.
