Informative paper
Editorial design for a mexican
non-governmental organization
JTMX formally established in 2019 from a reflection process to provide tools and processes to achieve justice, to break cycles of violence and impunity, address the needs of victims and to contribute to reconciliation and peacebuilding. Its work has as transversal axes: the central participation of victims, intersectionality and communication.
JTMX seeks to address the needs of justice, truth, reparation and non-repetition of serious human rights violations in critical situations in which traditional or ordinary justice responses are insufficient, ineffective or not very applicable to a reality of widespread violence and impunity.
The task of the Bisum team was to provide a clean, accessible and informative appearance through a document complemented by graphic resources in addition to textual ones. The result is a powerful and attractive document that allows the client to issue and publish the document on different platforms.
PROCESS:
Developing editorial design involves a structured process to create visually appealing and cohesive layouts for publications such as magazines, books, or newsletters. During the course of this project, a designated timeframe of two weeks was allocated for the production of a comprehensive booklet of approximately 50 pages. The primary objectives were to establish a layout and graphics that facilitate ease of comprehension for the reader. It was imperative that the entirety of the document adhered consistently to a unified language and graphic identity.
Moreover, the deliverables had to be developed in a format that exhibits adaptability and readability across diverse platforms and devices (computers, cell phones, and tablets). This requisite underscored the need for a nuanced approach to design that not only ensures visual coherence but also optimizes the user experience across varied technological interfaces.
JTMX expressed profound satisfaction with the work executed by the Bisum team, prompting the decision to forge an ongoing collaboration. Subsequently, JTMX has entrusted the Bisum team with the continued responsibility of editing and publishing additional documents, underscoring the esteemed level of confidence in the team's capabilities and commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
Some of the tasks developed during this project were:
-
Define the purpose and target audience of the publication.
-
Determine the hierarchy of information and the visual emphasis for different sections.
-
Establish a visual direction, considering color schemes, typography, and imagery.
-
Plan the placement of text, images, and other design elements on each page.
-
Develop detailed design mockups for a few representative pages or spreads.
-
Creation of social media content and posts for JTMX.
-
Ensure that the layout is aesthetically pleasing and aligns with the overall design concept.
